I Experience Beauty Every Day!
I don’t live next to the formidable beauty of the ocean, or the awe-inspiring, verdant forest. But, I have a window and a door. And through my window, and outside my door, I experience beauty every day.
EVERY DAY.
It is that kind of beauty that makes you just say, “Ah-h-h.”
But let me let you in on a secret.
YOU CAN MISS IT IF YOU FAIL TO LOOK!
“No.” you say, “That can’t be right. I know where you live. The landscape isn’t all that beautiful.”
I smile, in sympathy of your not-knowing.
I Ask You To Come See With Me.
Come, open my door and come out with me. Look up! See the wondrous sky, with its deep-blue hue, and bilious clouds, all fluffy white, with shades of gray or pink. Or, perhaps the day is gray, and the sunset lights up the charcoal clouds with gold, and pinks. And, look there! A perfect v of returning geese moves across the twilight sky.
As you stand in my yard, look down with me at the yellow flowers on this succulent, here, or the fuzzy leaves of the one o’er there, and the colors revealed in the day’s waning light.
Beauty Is Not Just Seen.
And wait! Did you hear? Beauty is not always just seen. For I hear the whirring wings of the humming bird. And the Sweet Olive flowers broadcast a delicate scent. Oh, how good, the warmth of the winter’s sun feels on my back!
Let’s go for a walk. Did you see? There’s a flock of birds in the bare, branched tree, that hummingbird’s nest, and a welcoming smile of a neighbor there. I experience beauty every day.
But wait, don’t go yet. Remember that look of the natural vegetation, Did you look up and see the mountains there?
And don’t forget the beauty of who lives in that section so brown. There are the sharp-eared kit fox, and the burrowing owl, the rabbits, the lizards, the snakes and mice, and the hawks and owls who hunt from above.
I don’t live next to the formidable beauty of the ocean, or the awe-inspiring forest. But, I have a window and a door, and through my window, and outside my door, I experience beauty every day. And you can, too. Look out your window, or step outside your door, and take a photo of something beautiful you see. Please share it with me.

When I rode my motorcycle across country, I was brought “up close and personal” with the foliage and landscapes and saw that EVERY place has beauty. Thank you, Shirley, for reminding us of the beauty of right here at home.
Hugs,

I liked your comment about “up close and personal”. that’s what I have always loved about road trips—the journey is as important as arriving at the destination. I believe taking time to appreciate day to day beauty enriches me. Thank you, Annis.
YES! I used to travel often on the I-5 from Northern California to Bakersfield before I moved here. I loved it! People would say it’s so boring. But I loved the expansive, rolling hills and valley – it felt like peace. Thank you for your lovely words!
Thank you, Lily. It took me a while to get used to this area. But now that I’ve lived here so long, I have experienced the beauty.
